What can you use the app for?

IStopOver presents users with a new way to find accommodations when making short term travel plans. The website gives users a place to post their excess home or office space as available to rent for a short term period. Other users can browse these available listings and choose to book a stay with another user rather than pay the often higher cost of an actual hotel. IStopOver gives users a way to live just like local residents and save money that would otherwise be wasted on an expensive hotel stay. Rentals are handled directly from one user to the other. Users can see options by theme or destination or search for specific locations from the IStopOver homepage.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

IStopOver was founded in April of 2009. The application provided short term rental options for internet users. The company is based in Toronto, Canada and currently consists of fewer than 20 individuals, including CEO Anthony Lipschitz. Today, many people use IStopOver to find cheaper ways to travel.

What are the differences to other apps?

Many travel websites give users ways to search through hotels and other commercially managed accommodations. IStopOver is one of the few that gives regular people a way to market their extra space as available for rent. Through IStopOver, users can pay far less for a stay in a local resident’s home or rent office space directly from the property owner. This alternative option gives the user more choices and lower rental rates.

Alternative Apps
How does the web app look and feel to use?

The IStopOver website gives users a clean, neat place to search for alternative accommodations. Visitors are greeted by images of available locations as well as four white buttons that allow the user to search by theme or destination. The right hand side presents user activity feeds and the bottom of the page provides users with more information on how IStopOver works. The bottom of the page gives the user a list of blue links that allows them to search by popular city destination.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can get started with IStopOver by clicking the “Register for Free” button in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. A pop up box appears at the center of the page asking the user for a first and last name, email address and password. After filling out the form, the user can click the green and white “Register for Free” button at the bottom of the form to continue. A note at the bottom of the page advises the user that by submitting their information, they are automatically agreeing to the IStopOver terms of use and privacy policy. A Facebook login button is also available for users who prefer to register with an existing Facebook account.

What does it cost to use the application?

Anyone searching for accommodations can join the IStopOver community for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges to search available locations on the site. However guests are charged approximately 15% each time they book a stay on IStopOver. The same fee is charged when a booking is cancelled. This amount is added on to the total rental price. Hosts do not have to pay to list an available space, but are charged a 3% processing fee for each booked stay.

Who would you recommend the application to?

IStopOver provides users with another way to find a place to stay while traveling. The website is intended for short term stays and gives users a cheaper way to stay in many cities all over the United States, Canada and other popular destinations.
